Community is the Outcome of the Christian Life

Marine View is a Community because of Jesus Christ.

When Jesus called you to follow Him, he invited you to be a part of something bigger than you are. When you follow Jesus your life becomes intricately connected and interwoven with other men and women also following Jesus.

When we talk about the church we use words like family and community. We see the church as a connected group of people who offer encouragement, share a mission, and care for one another.

Because community is so central to our life as followers of Jesus, it’s vitally important to understand the basis of the Christian community. In our sermon series this January, we will explore the idea of Christian community and find that the basis of Christian community is Jesus himself.

In the gospel of John, Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep and my sheep know me…they will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock and one shepherd.” At Marine View we are one flock with one shepherd – in our differences and similarities with one another – we are one. You see, Christian community is not the goal of the Christian life - it is the outcome of the Christian life. Community happens as we follow Jesus together.

Community is not the goal of the Christian Life – it is the outcome of the Christian Life.

At Marine View, we have an opportunity to be a multigenerational community of men and women following Jesus together.  To be one flock together, with one shepherd – Jesus Christ.

My challenge to you: invest in relationship with those around you. Invest in community with those who are in the same place of life as you. Invest in relationship with those who are in a different season of life than you. Discover the blessing and depth of life together as followers of Jesus as you reach across the generations to connect with each other.
