A NEW Beginning - Ministry to 4th and 5th Graders

A NEW Beginning

With great anticipation and excitement, this past Sunday, September 11, Marine View officially launched a new ministry specifically designed for preteen students. Our lower children’s ministry space was full of energy as 10 4th and 5th grade boys and 3 girls participated in our first ever Preteen Service – a youth group like environment with a small group component built in. It was clear to me and our volunteer leaders on Sunday that these students loved that we created an environment and program just for them. Worship music was blaring and preteens were engaged in our service elements.

Our preteen service really is an introduction to a youth group experience. Students participate in a Sunday service downstairs in the Studio room, that incorporates elements of worship and teaching in a format that engages and encourages participation. Despite being a bit crazy and loud at times, we purposefully incorporate all of our components to help students begin to take the first step of owning a personal faith in Jesus Christ.

The 4th and 5th grade student is at a key turning point in their life and faith development.  While they personally do not see themselves as children anymore, they are definitely NOT teens yet either. Plain and simple, they’re an age all their own. They think differently, act differently, relate differently, and learn differently than children who are younger and older than they are. Spiritually they are ready for something deeper than our K-3 group offers, but aren’t quite tough enough for teen issues.

At Marine View we want to take full advantage of these preteen years so that our students are launched into Middle and High School youth ministries Knowing Jesus, Growing in their personal relationship with Jesus, and personally Showing God’s love in their homes, school, and community through their words and actions.

I am deeply grateful for our awesome preteen volunteer leadership team. Our team members have such a heart for seeing faith come alive in our preteens. I am very excited to see how God will use each of them to impact our students’ lives. I ask that you join me in praying for our preteen volunteer leadership team as they serve our students every Sunday at Marine View.  Let’s together shower them in prayer support that lives will be transformed and our ministry will have impact not only here at Marine View but in our community as well.

In His Service, Amanda Forbes
